Dr. J. William Denton is a historian, author, and blogger. Born and raised in Eastern North Carolina, his areas of study include Ancient and Classical History, North Carolina History, and Early American History.
Denton attended Nash Community College, North Carolina State University, Liberty University, and American Public University. He holds an AA in General Studies, a BS in Religion, an MA in Ancient and Classical History, and a PhD in Humanities. He is a member of the American Historical Association and the Association of Ancient Historians. William and his wife live in Nash County, North Carolina with their son Liam.

This short book covers the history of Eastern North Carolina from early Native American settlement, through the political and economic turmoil of English colonization, and ending with North Carolina's involvement in the American Revolution. Denton examines the contributions that Eastern North Carolina has made to the development of the United States and the indomitable spirit that survives in her people today.
